blondes, zoo, and finally 3d

Some more sketchbook and zoo.....with a side dish of 3d!! I've been working on this guy's head on and off for a while now. The head is about 70% done. The bottom right image is how I'm hoping to have his hair. My major hurdle is figuring out how to handle his beard. I'm not sure if I should use geometry or use Maya hair...? I'm sending it so my teacher for crit so we'll see what happens after I get a response. It should be interesting. Take care. FV.
*edit* This is getting to be a habit haha. But I added a new sketchbook page up top. I'm trying to do as much color traditionally but I still touched up parts in Pshop.....Also the character on the bottom right is influenced by a Joe Bluhm caricature ( http://www.joebluhm.blogspot.com/ ). I think it got too experimental, but it was fun.

Stick with geometry for the beard. Hair is a major pain in the butt to create, light and render. Don't waste your time (like I did).

Hey Francis - Something randomly reminded me of this today - did you ever hear anything more about 'Nocturne'? Did it ever come out? I can't really find anything online.

Yo Francy -
Diggin the 3D and the 2d, but like Mr. Kloc said, I'd stick with geometry for the facial hair, right?! Brian says it's not worthit but plus it just seems terrifying to have to overcome that hurdle in this stage of the game, no?! Whichever way u choose, stuff is looking hot and I can't wait to see more u churning out.
I see u soon!!

Just found your blog and I was blown away by the range of what you can do - and not to mention the speed. I'm very impressed. Given the right opportunity, I see you making it big in the industry.

How far along are you in Ringling right now and what course are you taking up if you don't mind me asking? Anyway, fantastic job!

I left a comment, but I don't see it showing up. So, I'm going to leave another one. Sorry if I repeat myself.

You've got the "goods." Your work is pretty inspiring, and I was surprised to see that you are still a student.

Thanks for leaving a comment on my blog. I'm not sure I would have found you had you not.

Thanks everyone for the encouraging comments!! And it does look like I will use geometry for the beard mainly because our school's farm might have a problem with the shadows needed to render hair. Best!!
take care,
