Detroit Dr. Sketchy

So this past Thursday I attended the self proclaimed Detroit version of "Dr. Sketchy: The Anti-Art School aka figure drawing at a seedy bar in a city bordering Detroit. It was great fun. The models were great and wore burlesque gear, drag, and the like and and posed in very unclassical poses. The Dj in the background was spinning trance/ambient music the whole time which furthered the surrealist feeling of the night. It was not a scene I was used to but I enjoyed meeting artists from all over Detroit and having the opportunity to draw models this different. Links you may be interested in:

I included a collage of pictures from that night and other sessions as well as 5-10 minute sketches I did. I later added color in Pshop that night 'cuz I was so pumped.

Any body interested in starting a Sarasota Dr. Sketchy???

take care,
-Francis

What are you doing in Detroit? Do you know Jim Anderson? We went to school together.

(Maybe you know this, but...) Jim Anderson was at that Dr. Sketchy session, Brian. He and I both drew comic strips for the Wayne State U. newspaper in the late '80s! Small world. Some of his art is on the DS blog Francis links to.

Definitely start one up in Sarasota, it's easier than you imagine!

Man that's crazy. I did not know Jim was there...(I unfortunately am not familiar with Jim's work, what does he do?)

But me and Detroit go way back. I was raised in Detroit from when I was 3 up until Ringling time. I'm just home for the summer now, probably my last one. 313!!
