Detroit Dr. Sketchy

So this past Thursday I attended the self proclaimed Detroit version of "Dr. Sketchy: The Anti-Art School aka figure drawing at a seedy bar in a city bordering Detroit. It was great fun. The models were great and wore burlesque gear, drag, and the like and and posed in very unclassical poses. The Dj in the background was spinning trance/ambient music the whole time which furthered the surrealist feeling of the night. It was not a scene I was used to but I enjoyed meeting artists from all over Detroit and having the opportunity to draw models this different. Links you may be interested in:

I included a collage of pictures from that night and other sessions as well as 5-10 minute sketches I did. I later added color in Pshop that night 'cuz I was so pumped.

Any body interested in starting a Sarasota Dr. Sketchy???

take care,
-Francis

blondes, zoo, and finally 3d

Some more sketchbook and zoo.....with a side dish of 3d!! I've been working on this guy's head on and off for a while now. The head is about 70% done. The bottom right image is how I'm hoping to have his hair. My major hurdle is figuring out how to handle his beard. I'm not sure if I should use geometry or use Maya hair...? I'm sending it so my teacher for crit so we'll see what happens after I get a response. It should be interesting. Take care. FV.
*edit* This is getting to be a habit haha. But I added a new sketchbook page up top. I'm trying to do as much color traditionally but I still touched up parts in Pshop.....Also the character on the bottom right is influenced by a Joe Bluhm caricature ( http://www.joebluhm.blogspot.com/ ). I think it got too experimental, but it was fun.

Smorgasbord of stuff

Some recent stuff.... The loooooong picture shows some caricatures I've done this past weekend. I'm happy with the head on the Superman one since that's probably the farthest I've pushed a live caricature. The single character is all done in ink, acrylics, and watercolor and touched up in Pshop. It's part of a larger project I'm working on. I'm starting to lean toward more traditional work, I just think it has more life to it. And the last piece is another page from the moleskin. I'm finding less and less time to sketch.... I did this one during my business class..ha. Take care.

*edit
* instead of starting a new post I though I'd add this sketch up top of a fireman that is test drawing in hopes of landing an illustration gig...

Creative Quarterly 7

I'm real excited!!! These pics are of me holding Creative Quarterly Issue number 7. It's a national magazine (sold at Border's, Barnes n Nobles, etc) that discusses art and has a gallery for art students (4 yr and graduate) I received an Editor's choice in the Illustration section, which is quite an honor. This is the first time I can see my work published, so I'm real pumped!!! Spectrum just posted that Spectrum 14 is coming out around October so look for my Illustration in that publication as well.
