Moloko + cover!

Hey guys. So a little over a week ago I was asked by the folks at Moloko+ magazine (a Russian magazine) to do the cover of their next issue. I agreed knowing that it was going to be a crazy ride since I was fairly swamped. I was right..haha I pumped this guy out in one action packed night. They amazingly asked me to do whatever I wanted but make sure it had something to do with Spring. I thought I'd do something that would make people smile, but avoid cheesiness (did I succeed?).I'm stoked with the fact that I used gouache for the color. I did tweak it a little digitally, but for the most part it is a traditional piece. For me that is a small victory!
take care,
francis

Yeah man! Wicked new work.. The freelance gigs look really cool and the stuff you do for yourself like the inks and figures have this great blend of being super solid and stylised/abstracted. Word.

I'd say the chessiness is at a very low level, mostly due to the fact that this isn't cliche 'spring' imagery. You succeeded. For your digital stuff are you still using photoshop or are you doing it in corel?? Keep it up mang, don't burn out.

The read is awesome. It makes me happy. Well done. Congrats on your win from the society! You going to N.Y.? If so I'd love to meet up and talk a little shop. Cheers!

Wow dude, it sounds like you're pretty damn busy. It must feel good to get pro work while you're still in school, especially a publication as big as VIBE. Great work, as usual.

As for the Academy, I'm not sure if I'll be visiting or not. I've attended it twice, but I do have a few students that will be going this summer and I may stop by for a week or so. We'll see.

Man, I really love it when color offsets from line work (as you have done here). It could be the most horrific piece in the world (THIS IS NOT) and I think I would still like it as long as the color bled outside the line....
Coincidentally you have offset the color AND it is a fantastic piece! The type looks good on there as well.
