pastel figures and photos!

The 2009 Illustration Academy  is in full swing and as expected it is crazy bananas. It is my 2nd year attending and I am honored to be around such accomplished teachers and students!

This means nu-pastel figure drawing. These figure sessions truly contain me at my most happy. Something about the technique they push is so money. It makes it much easier to get those strokes you see in your head, but can never seem to get. I did notice a trend of having a rendered torso with simple (or lack of) hands with no feet. I need to fix that. And yes the model that posed for the last one is ripped, she's great!! O yeah, these are 10-20 minute poses.

Also the opening for my show in San Diego went terrific! Thanks to all those that stopped by and said hi! A few pics are above.

And lastly, here's a WIP photo. Maybe 50% done. It's of a 30x40 oil portrait of badass guitarist Johnny Winter. I'm determined to finished it up next week.  I'm jazzed.

take care!!

The figures are mind blowing. Awesome sketches! Are they on newsprint?

There's a geometric quality to the figures that is really beautiful.

Love the style of your pastel figure drawings on toned paper.

Maybe the challenge of never quite getting it is part of the motivation. The figure always offers something more to strive for.

You wrote that you are most happy during these sessions. There's something about the process of creating that is very satisfying.

Love that you used blue.
Kill that guitar, those are such a pain, but when you get it right it sings.
Figure drawing is my own form of meditation and relaxation. There's nothing better.
Hope all is going well
much love.

Those figures are sweet I like the third one down and the first one the most. That oil painting is coming out killer looks like a lot of fun, and I see you are using some of that figure technique with pastels on the oil painting as well. great job sir.
