This post has been a long time coming. I began this project in November of last year in George Pratt's senior illustration class. It is my adaptation of Roald Dahl's great short story "In the Ruins." Yes the same fellow that brought us the giant peach wrote adult stories too..haha. I then was given the opportunity to include it in Image Comic's Popgun anthology.
Obviously that didn't happen. This is the "kinda-not-really" finished inks for some of the first pages (out of a proposed 12). Unfortunately I'm calling the project quits since I'm leaving the States so soon, and have too many commitments. Bummer!!!! I really enjoyed this process, but I'll get another shot. I love comics and hope to work on more projects in the future!
The blank boxes were supposed to have drawings in them, but I never got around to working them out. The pages still need a lot of work, but I thought I'd give them a post anyways.

These are kick ass! Was this project the one where you were experimenting with monotypes? Too bad you weren't able to finish, these turned out great!

such great pages. it's a shame that you won't be able to finish them now, but I don't think you should quit on them. you could always find time to finish them later.
by the way, what kinds of things did you study to help with comic book layouts and pacing?

The pages look great. Of note is that Dahl like H.G. Wells and H.P. Lovecraft was a vehement anti-Semite. The irony here being Lovecraft was married to a Jewess.

francis: I wanted to introduce monotypes but these are just ink and acrylic FW white and acrylic paint. The plan was to take the individual panels, xerox them, photo transfer and put them in an acid wash to etch them into a plate which i would use to make monotypes with 2-3 colors. I took a printmaking class where I learned that...ill do it in the future..maybe not with this story tho
