Pascal-Adolphe-Jean Dagnan-Bouveret

===============================

I'm thinking of changing my name to Francis-Kercheval-Norman Jorge-Vallejo if long names make you paint better. It worked for Pascal-Adolphe-Jean Dagnan-Bouveret. These paintings are beastly. Thanks to the enormously talented (and Dolor collaborator) Jens Claessens for the heads up! To me, these stand next to Repin's work as far as quality is concerned.

If you digg those pieces check out the last piece by Gyula Benczúr! (via James Gurney then Bobby Chui).

take care,
-francis

Great stuff. I wish women's clothing were still as interesting as they were back then. So much more style and personality :P

Thanks for sharing!

Incredible stuff. His ability to paint the texture of things is second to none. His satin and wood are amazing, and that bowl of bloody water is killer!

You know Francis, I specifically went to Hungray, Budapest, to look at Benczur's work... it's absolutely amazing. One of the best historical painters by far. Check out Jan Matejko's work too... we also made me go to Poland to look at his work.
