Hands, saxaphones, and pigs!!

So these sketchbook images are for an article in 2dArtist magazine ( http://www.2dartistmagazine.com/ ). I was asked to do a step-by-step of how I handle my sketchbook. The timing worked out fairly well since I just finished the moleskine I was using over the summer so I grabbed a new 'skine and went at it. I really tried to apply what I learned over the last couple months aka going crazy with the mixed media. Each piece was composed as I went along which was a blast compared to doing thumbs and all that jazz. I then scanned them in and did some work in Photoshop. I did substantial work over each one after the traditional phase to try and make it a little more fly. I'll post up the issue number once I find out when they plan to print the article!

*edit* I was just informed that the article will be in the October issue!

....and here are some caricatures from over the weekend. I'm happy with some things, not so much with others. But it was my last day at the zoo, so looking back it was a good run, although I really want to tackle the 3/4 view more, along with going crazier with exaggeration. Hopefully with some time off I can get away from the "retail" style and come back to caricaturing with a new vengeance.

Very cool post man. The caricatures are great, but I am loving what you've got going on in the sketchbook. I like your style sir, please keep dishing out the inspiration.

You make my sketchbooks look like steaming piles of inferior sketchbooks. Love what you do in your moleskine.

Great stuff at any age, but your youth make me sick with envy-- I was worthless at the age. Lost in a haze of dirt weed and animation inbetweening.

Francis,

Your work is absolutely amazing. My sister has been showing me your work and it is just so inspiring. I can tell that you really create work from the heart because it breathes life, its not surface.
