Recently I've been exploring different ways of drawing. These are few of the more successful ones. I have a hefty stack of failures, but I'm excited about some of the things I learned. The top image was an experiment with scanning in a drawing, destroying it, printing it out again, and then adding pastel and colored pencil on top. The other images were drawn very quickly with black colored pencil, normal pencil, and a little charcoal. I made an effort to draw them without any construction underneath. Just started with a line and tried to make it work. The mistakes were just as fun to work with as the more "correct" marks. Been looking at a lot of Schiele, Kent Williams, and Klimt.

take care!

I really like them all. Very successful experiments.

Just a question about the first one. What do you mean with "destroying it"?

Thanks!
Aldo

Hey Francis, lovely stuff as always - I also see a little Dave McKean in there too (his work on Cages specifically) in the faces and female bodies. Are you fan of Dave's?

Always great to see your experiments - thanks for posting.

Cheers,
Jonathan

Yeah MAAAANG! Those girls faces are perfect(in the best non perfect way)! It looks so raw and in the moment! Like you took all the stuff you've learned from school and threw it out the window and just rocked the page. That's the sort of thing that does it for me these days.... and ya nailed it!

Some of your best. Might I suggest you re-design your signature, it does not have the same level of aesthetic as the drawings.

Schiele? Klimt?

I love you.

Hahaha. They are two of my favs, anytime I need inspiration I flip through their books. Helps a lot.

And your sketches are wonderful...but you already knew that.
