almost final design extravaganza *UPDATE 5-8*

Senor Steez is the second character from the thesis mentioned below. He's buddies with G-mol although they always argue what's better: radio or underground hip-hop ( a theme working it's way into the thesis because all of the current events). I have one more character from this series that should be finished tonight!

These images actually have nothing to do with the my thesis that I'm developing, I just cleaned up these older designs so I thought I would put them up. The designs with the red yarn circle in the corner are the ones that are actually part of my thesis.

Im going to start posting some of the almost final design turn arounds, studies etc. for my thesis work. Here is the first one. G-mole aka Guacamole. Ill keep editing and updating as I finish em!

geisha

I'm wrapping up an advanced art history class dealing with Asian art right now. I initially picked the class because it just fit my schedule, but thank God I did. Japenese prints especially from the Edo period are amazing. The compositions, the lines, and the graphicness...it's some crazy good art that I would never would have considered without that class. So the final assignment for the class is to do your own take on Asian art so I put this together and had a blast doing it! I haven't been posting much lately because of finals and considering that I'm having a lot of issues with my second thesis idea....I changed the human character and the environment plus other fun stuff...But I had to stop myself so I could sleep haha, but there are some more things I would like to do like add some graphic flower branches in the corner behind the "squares" but I know I'll be doing more stuff in this awesome style so it'll have to wait. As Cheeks says: hope ya'll diggs!

stamping plant sketches *update 4-10*

These sketches are style suggestions for the "realistic" human section of my thesis pitch. When these would be translated into 3d I would actually model this stamping machine with a lot of detail but I would shade it in a light grey with a suggestion of a outline. The human character would be in full color and texture to stand in contrast to the environement allowing for some interesting shot compositions. Or at least that's the plan. We'll see how it goes. Enjoy!

*edit: added a more polished design of my factory worker. I finally think it's getting there although I still need to do some exploration.....edit #2: another design, I enjoy the head of this one so I think for my final design I will use the blue coveralls guy with the head of the hat guy. Thanks.

lighting, render comp

So I'm going to try and really focus on the visuals on my next short animation. Short like 12 seconds short (haha) compared to my 32 second marathon I just wrapped up. I'm going for a graphic design sorta deal with some creative lighting. This is going to be a practice in comping so I should learn a lot. Right now the planes don't make too much sense as this is just a study for the final. I'm going for an environment that involved my character standing on the porch after climbing a HUGE amount of stairs and the neighborhood underneath him. I think I'll do the yard of the main house in 3d, but comp in the neighborhood and clouds later in 2d. And those "lambert" grey things he's holding....they're police lights...the things he's selling. Don't ask. hahaa.

cut outs

I'm trying a new technique for the character designs on my new animation idea. These guys are part of the same story as all those faces I posted below. These are the inhabitants inside the cd player that the humanoid character presses. I tried to get that flat/cut-out feel and man is it tough! Mucho respect to those that can whip those out. Each one of these guys took at least an hr, but at least I learned a lot. If anyone knows a good workflow to get these kind of results shoot me a message, I'd really appreciate it. These are to kind of get the ball rolling and I hope to pump many more out. Hope ya'll dig!
